Access

The Conundrum Creek Trail, in the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness, parallels Conundrum Creek and weaves 8.5 miles and 2,500 vertical feet up the valley to the springs. The Forest’s directions run from Aspen a half mile west on Highway 82 to the roundabout, right onto Castle Creek Road for about five miles, then right onto Conundrum Road for 1.1 miles to the trailhead parking lot. The trail crosses the creek three times below the springs: the crossings at 2.5 and 6 miles have primitive log bridges, the third requires wading, and the Forest warns it can be hazardous during spring runoff. Overnight visitors need a Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness permit and must carry a bear-resistant container; each designated campsite in the Conundrum Hot Springs permit zone has its own maximum group size of two to six. Group size is limited to 10 people.

Trailhead: Conundrum Creek Trailhead #1981, Conundrum Road off Castle Creek Road, Aspen

Winter: From early October to late June the campsites and trail are snow covered and the trailhead is inaccessible.
