Access
The Sitka Ranger District rents a rustic 12-by-14-foot Pan Abode cabin — plywood bunks, table and benches, wood stove, capacity four, newly built in 2012 — on the northern shore of Bertha Bay on the west coast of Chichagof Island, 65 miles northwest of Sitka inside the West Chichagof-Yakobi Wilderness. The Forest reports that the White Sulphur Springs bathhouse has been re-opened for public use after temporary stabilization work on the building. The 0.9-mile White Sulphur Springs Trail begins at Mirror Harbor and is fairly level, paralleling Bertha Bay; boat anchorage is possible in Mirror Harbor, or in Porcupine Bay with a skiff ride to the cabin.
Trailhead: White Sulphur Springs Trail from Mirror Harbor, Bertha Bay — boat anchorage in Mirror Harbor or Porcupine Bay
Winter: The Forest rents the cabin through the October 1 – April 30 non-peak season at the same $60 per night rate as peak season.
Access notes read from the manager's own page, checked 2026-08-19.
Worth knowing: The Forest describes the bathhouse stabilization as temporary, covering the building for the next three to five years — check current status with the Sitka Ranger District (907-747-6671) before travelling.
